Transforming New Mexico Lives, One Body at a Time

Specializing in Senior Fitness, Chair Yoga, Yoga for Seniors, and Functional Movement Screens

Personal training, yoga, and functional movement screens from the comfort of your home!

For residents of Eastside Albuquerque (Northeast Heights, Midtown, University, Nob Hill, Four Hills) and the East Mountains, we offer 1:1 personal training and yoga instruction from the comfort of your home or, if you prefer, from the excellent gym facilities at the Jewish Community Center (JCC).

We’ll start with an in-person fitness assessment to better understand your fitness goals and your current level of fitness and we’ll use that information to create a custom fitness program that is tailored for your body and goals.

We also offer (and highly recommend) an in-home functional movement screen to identify any muscle imbalances.  We use the results of the functional movement screen to identify specific exercises that should be incorporated into your routine to help you correct muscle imbalances and prevent injuries.   All functional movement screens are performed by Mark, who has earned Functional Movement Screen Level 1 and Level 2 Certification by Functional Movement Systems ... one of the few people in the State of New Mexico with that certification.

Finally, we offer in-home personal training and yoga instruction that is tailored for your body and your goals.  You can choose to meet 1-3 times per week, once every two weeks, or even once per month.  For those who choose to meet less frequently, we can create a monthly exercise routine that is tailored for you and we'll follow up with weekly accountability phone calls to discuss your progress, make modifications to your routine, and keep you on track.  This ideal combination of in-person assessment and instruction together with weekly accountability delivers real-results while saving you the cost of more frequent in-person sessions.

ABQ Fitness Training is dedicated to providing you with exceptional personal training services that deliver real results and we stand behind our fitness programs with a money back guarantee.  Give us a call at 505-288-3535 to learn more!

Personal Training for Optimal Physical & Mental Health

Hi, my name is Mark Aspelin.  I am the owner and lead trainer for ABQ Fitness Training LLC based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

As a life-long athlete and health & fitness fanatic, I know what it takes to design safe and effective programs that will enable you to accomplish your goals in life.  I'm also old enough (49 years old) to know that our goals can take some dramatic changes over the course of our life.

When I was growing up, my life revolved around soccer.  I played competitive soccer starting at the age of five and continued through college, eventually playing Division I soccer at the University of Notre Dame.

In my early twenties, I switched to triathlons, 10k races, and half-marathons for a few years before getting hooked on trail-running and mountain climbing, which I did a lot of throughout my twenties, thirties, and early forties.

Then, in my early forties, things drastically changed when I was diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia.  As is often the case, this life change pushed me in a completely different direction that turned out to be very positive for me, although I didn't see it that way at the time.  My cardiologist gave me three choices: A) Surgery; B) Prescription Drugs, or C) Status Quo - live with it.

I chose option D - natural remedies.  I devoured books and articles on natural treatments for heart arrhythmias and visited Naturopaths and Chinese herbalists.  More importantly, I put into practice the things that I learned to see what worked well and not so well in the key areas of sleep, diet, and exercise.

The end result was a complete overhaul of my exercise routine, diet, and lifestyle.  This included some difficult changes for me, such as giving up alcohol and caffeine.  I also abandoned my endurance training routine and replaced it with a daily exercise routine of 30-60 minutes, which includes a wide variety of activities such as resistance training, high-intensity interval training, yoga, jogging, biking, swimming, plyometrics, and speed, agility, and quickness training.  All of this is done in a carefully controlled manner that is good from the perspective of injury prevention and my heart.  Through this process, I've become an expert on what an optimal fitness and diet routine looks like, with the goal of living a long, healthy, and active life.

Ultimately, my journey into seeking optimal physical and mental well-being led me to want to help other people live a similarly healthy lifestyle, and I decided to launch a business called ABQ Fitness Training LLC.

I had already completed a M.S. Degree in Biology with a concentration in Medical Physiology in my younger days, but I decided to dive into the world of personal training to ensure that my skills were current.  I am now a Certified Personal Trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and I also completed specialized certifications in Functional Movement Screens (I'm one of the only trainers in New Mexico with Level 1 and Level 2 Certifications), Corrective Exercise, Weight Loss, Senior Fitness, and Fitness Nutrition.  I'm also a certified Yoga Instructor (RYT 200) specializing in chair yoga and yoga for seniors.

I truly care about my clients and I work together with them to create custom programs that are safe and effective for their body and will enable them to accomplish their short-term and long-term goals in life.  I also do my best to create programs that clients actually enjoy!

I look forward to partnering with you to design a program that will enable you to accomplish your goals and live a long, healthy, and happy life.
